The day of a public relations professional is full of writing -- media releases, memos to colleagues and bosses, critical communications with clients, advertising copy, brochures, reports, social networking, emails, phone messages, etc. So much of your success is simply determined by how well you clearly communicate, that you owe it to yourselves and your readers to buff up your abilities, preferably with minimum pain and maximum gain. Many feel they’re not good enough because their releases do not see print. Many think that they were not born writers. They usually outsource the writing of the releases, thinking this is something that they will never learn to do. Writing for Public Relations workshop is designed to get you writing effectively within a few hours. We will show you that writers are made and not born, and that anyone can write. We will take you through simple steps and exercises to get you out of your fear of writing, convince you that anyone can write provided they know how and we will show you ways to liven up your PR copy to keep your reader engaged. By the end of the workshop, you will be able to write press releases that can grab the attention of editors and online readers.

COURSE OUTLINE
METHODOLOGY This course will show you the mechanisms in a newsroom, the decision-making process and the key players involved. There will be workshops on how to generate stories and write press releases so as to give participants an idea of how the reporters operate and think.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This workshop is specially designed for those who are involved in the media relations aspect of PR. However, those who take this workshop will also know how to write advertising copies and marketing materials as we teach how to conceptualise ideas and know how to make the copy flow.
Trainer's Profile
Vanitha Nadaraj has over 33 years of working experience primarily in the area of communication. She has 16 years of experience in journalism as a sub-editor and reporter for The Star. She was a senior manager for corporate communications at Tesco Stores (M) Sdn Bhd, a multinational corporation with 12,000 employees, where she was handling both internal and external communications. Prior to that she was teaching communication to undergraduates at HELP University College, focusing on journalism, media planning and media management. She completed her MA in journalism at Ateneo de Manila University as a fellow of the German-based Konrad Adenauer Foundation and has presented papers on media in Malaysia and has had her academic work published in publications overseas. Presently, Vanitha conducts workshops in media visibility, crisis communication and business communication as well as provides consultancy in public relations. She has conducted various trainings for RAM Ratings Berhad, Sunway Berhad, OCBC Bank, NIOSH, IGB Berhad, Bond Pricing Agency, Jabatan Penjara Malaysia, UKM, USIM, Bond Pricing Agency, One Drop Perfumes, MARA, GIVI, Parkson, Metropolitan College and many other private and government agencies.
